THE BEAST WITH A HUNDRED VOICES.....

Kocho-Bi-Sexual is Sebastian Paulson, Emi Kariya, and a heavily modified console organ. The duo plays subversive psychedelic dance rock inspired by the woods, sex, and speeding.

Raised in the militia belt of Northern Michigan, Sebastian eventually found his way to the Detroit area. Submerged in a cesspool of mind altering opportunities, personal transformation, and all night basement jams, he stewed with fellow geniuses that would go on to create bands like Celebration and Wolf Eyes. Emi, a Japanese rebel, grew up all over the world, mostly in Tokyo, getting kicked out of different schools and narrowly avoiding disasters.

The duo started playing together in 2003 when Sebastian dragged a fifty dollar Hamond organ into his Brooklyn basement. The thing looked incredible, tacky speaker cloth stretched on a mammoth structure of polished walnut, and studded with colorful switches and flashing lights, truly a beast with a hundred voices. Emi and Sebastian began exploring these voices unearthing the skeletons of future songs as they went. Kocho-Bi-Sexual left Brooklyn for Detroit in 2005 with a "just for shits-n-giggles" attitude. However, what they found back in Michigan was the time and space to confront their potential. They made their first album, cut their teeth playing live on Motown stages, booked a coast to coast tour, and began building their own organ.

Sebastian, a highly skilled furniture maker with a green thumb for electronics, ultimately dissected the organ, twisted it's guts and then built it an entirely new body. Adding a pair of Space Echos to the line-up created a shape-shifting iridescent fog of blips and swells grounded by a throbbing pedal bass and tribal percussion presets. Kocho-Bi-Sexual molds this sound mass into beautiful, perplexing pop songs and kaleidoscopic soundscapes that suffer masochistic melodic stabbings and savage harmonic sacrifice. Emi's vocal floats on top with an eery pre-pubescent quality, while Sebastian's placid voice of reason calls from the depths, occassionally surfacing for skin on skin harmonies. The two share a visible chemistry that illuminates both their recordings and the group's live performances.

Back in Brooklyn since mid 2007, Kocho-bi-Sexual has finished a scorching new EP and snowballed it's way onto stages with local heat Awesome Color and Dragons of Zynth. Kocho-bi-Sexual, the anamolous creation, continues hacking it's way through lush back country mapping the vantage points of remote musical civilizations.
